Section 3
This mellow sleepy section features the main melody and inversion X 2, at a very slow tempo (80), with long note (minims) rhythms. The metre is written as 6/4 3/2. I think it is written like this to suggest “conducted in 6 but sounds like 3” but I'm not sure.
As usual the melody uses the principal of subtraction.
The section begins with the main melody on violin and the inversion on cello. Note the double stops on the strings, with the open D string.

Tremolos on crotales, bowed cymbal, flute, gong, and at the end, strings feature strongly in this section.
A complicated, dissonant, counter melody on the flute, (making the texture polyphonic) also features prominantly. This flute part also features staccato, triplets, quintuplets, sextuplets, molto vibrato, as well as many accidentals.
The "wrong note" version on strings under the piano at the end, features G pedal notes (drone)
