Bass Recitative 5th movement

This is a recitative Accompagnato, meaning accompanied by an instrumental ensemble. It is more melodic than  the declamatory 3rd movement. Piano e coll arco in the ‘cello meaning with soft and with bow. Although sharing the wide angular leaps (similarities) and the penitential type text (examine the text) with the 3rd movt, there are many notable differences  also.
Tonality-It starts in Eb major (closely related to the main key of the Cantata(Gm).Note that in all movements the Gm key signature is used regardless of  the key of the movement. This movt. moves on to Gm (B.9) Ab major at the Andante (17) before finishing on Fm.
Tempo changes are a feature of this movt. Note the Vivace (lively), Adagio (slowly), Lento(slow) and Andante (at a walking pace) markings on the score. Note that the accompaniment is on strings and continuo, and the voice is Bass. Syllabic word setting is most common but also be aware melismatic word painting on such terms as sprenget (sprinkled),  and much use of ornamentation in the voice – Several trills (tr). Notice the pedal (long sustained notes) notes in the ‘cello part.
