The Piano was a new instrument in Mozart's time. The main advantage of it compared to the harpsichord was its ability to make varying levels of volume and tone because of the hammer mechanism. This enabled performers to be more expressive in their music.
The main features of the piano playing techniques in the concerto are Alberti bass, trills, melodies decorated (ornamented) with elaborate scale (by step) and arpeggio (broken chords). The new expressive piano also allowed the Appogiatura to be more expressive.
When listening to the piano, always remember it is like an orchestra in itself. It plays melody, bass and inner harmonies and counter melodies. consider all of the above when asked to "describe the music played by the piano in this excerpt?"

A Concerto is an extended work in several (3 or 4) contrasting movements, for solo instrument accompanied by orchestra. The spotlight is normally on the solo instrument while the orchestra supports in accompaniment. The first movement of this Concerto however contains a theme (B) which is only ever played by the orchestra. This unusual step of giving the orchestra prominence is a good example of how a composer pushes the boundaries back little by little in creativity, although Mozart received much criticism for this. It is well worth noting how Mozart writes for sections of the orchestra alternating with or engaged in dialogue with the piano. This Concerto, one of 21, was composed in 1786, the same year as he finished The Marriage of Figaro (Opera). The solo instrument in this concerto is the Piano, a relatively new instrument in the 18th Century and a favourite of Mozart’s
